Alpinestars Krypton Short
A very lightweight short ideal for summer trail riding, the Krypton Short has comfort and convenience in equal measure. An elasticized waist affords a customizable fit while double seam reinforcements and a PU coating add to its overall durability.
This is a really nice lightweight short. My 12-year-old is wearing the 28 inch size. At first we thought the lightweight material wouldn't hold up, but it's done really well through some crashes and slides on gravel. And the shorts cover his knees, so they're socially acceptable.
I wore and washed these once and there is already a tear in the front. I'm not sure what happened but I don't remember snagging against anything and my wash cycle is always on gentle when washing my mtb clothes. Either way they should have held up to the 1 day of "abuse" I put them through. Also the fit was fine when I put them on but as soon as I started riding I was constantly pulling them up to keep my crack from showing. Maybe that is more of a personal fit issue but I think I will stick with the fox ranger shorts. Also you will here these things while you pedal because they are loud! On the plus side there is no need to announce your presence around corners since everyone can here your shorts swishing at every pedal stroke.
Light weight and comfortable. Great for riding and casual wear.
Great shorts for 30 bucks, but I don't think I'd pay more. No lining, no reinforced areas, no frills. As another review mentions, the material is kind of like rain gear and board short material combined, very light and flexible, but not overly stretchy. I really like it, but I get the distinct feeling that durability may be an issue after a crash or two due to the material. In mention of the material; these are going to be a welcome relief come summer in AZ. I took the recommendation of another reviewer and purchased the 30" waist and love the fit, as I too fall between 30 and 31 inches. Adjustable straps on the waist are a plus, I think I probably could've gotten away with the 32" with the adjustability, but the ones I got are great (take what you will from that). I'm not experiencing the thigh constriction that the other reviews mention, but maybe that's my wimpy legs (21" thighs at their widest). 3 rides in as many days and 40+ miles, thumbs up for the sale price and would recommend.
I fall between 30" and 32" and ordered the 30" shorts. They fit around the waist just fine but the thighs were too tight. The material felt good. There isn't any padding or double-thick layering that I noticed, otherwise I'd give it 5 starts. For $30, these are excellent shorts though. The 32" fit great, both length and around the legs. Solid purchase
Im a 31" waist and ordered the 30" because it can be adjusted, if you fall in between the sizes order one size lower, fits great. Might be a tight for guys with bigger thighs. Material is somewhat similar to rain gear. Length is spot on and its light weight material is great for the Vegas heat. AND the one and only gripe i have is it has no front or rear pockets! cargo packets only for an All Mountain shorts. so 4 stars only given to the shorts. Come on A-stars you guys are better than that.
