Avid Elixir 3 Disc Brake 2012

Avid Elixir 3 Disc Brake 2012

With features that matter, the Elixir 3 brings Avid's most important technologies to the people, including the convenience of tooled reach-adjust and their revolutionary TaperBore Technology. Not all pockets are deep, which is why they don't consider things like comfort, control and reliability "features" - to them, these are rights of every Avid owner. These brakes come without rotors, are pre bled and come in plain packaging.

  • Deep Stroke Modulation allows riders to perfectly navigate that line and control even the most powerful brakes with finesse
  • DOT 5.1 takes almost 3 times longer to boil than DOT 4, thus allowing flawless fade-free performance in even more extreme conditions
  • When one finger has the power to control your ride, adjusting the levers to perfectly match your unique hands is seriously important
  • With Avid's top-loading pads, new disc-brake pads can be installed without taking off the wheel
  • With Avid's Tri-Align Caliper Positioning System, aligning the caliper to the rotor literally takes seconds

Got them on both my mountain bikes and for around $100 a set they are awesome. Make sure you get the HS1 rotors. They seem to be the lightest and work the best for me.

Works most of the time - Oct 02, 2013

These brakes work great. When they WORK!!! I have now gone through 3 sets of these. For a moderate user they only last about 1 year then a seal goes out and they stop working. The brake pads were not even down to 70%. On the other hand they stop smooth and are very strong. They can squeak a little but it was never a problem for me. If this is your first hydraulic disk brake it is not a bad choice. If you are replacing a hydraulic Disk or a heavy user you might want want to look at a Shimano.

I pick up these front and rear for my 2013 Trek Marlin and love them. They are quiet and have great power and modulation. I would recommend them to anyone on a budget. I found them very easy to adjust and center to the rotors with the conical washers that are sent with them and had no problem at all. It was a very fast install indeed. If you are looking for a entry level set of hydraulic brakes then look no further. Well worth the money spent!
