If you're kickin' it old-school, do it with the best there is. Making brakes that slow down a bike is easy. But making them light, powerful, efficient, adjustable and ergonomically perfect for your hand takes a lot of experience and smart design. That's the stuff that Avid has made look so easy for 16 years.
For the price, you cannot beat the lever feel, durability and functionality. Good levers.
These levers feel well constructed. Have ridden them hard and they've stood up well. If you have rim brakes, buy them, the price is right.
I had these levers on my first mountain bike. I loved them. I found they held up well and that they had less lateral flex than other more expensive levers. The hook at the end was great for full finger glove use.
These levers made my brake systems on all my bikes easier to adjust, maintain, as well as easy on my budget. Used a number of sets of these to help upgrade older bikes. As a side benefit it made it easier to brake, use, maintain and adjust whether the systems were v brakes or disc brakes.
I bought these with my avid bb7 brakes becuase my old brake levers both broke. I like the quality and the feel of these and the durability is great. i have taken a direct hit to my brake lever before and it is still working perfect. i would recomend thes to any mechanical brake rider.
These levers have always been one of my favorites. They have the exact rounding at the ends that seem to fit my hands the best. I can always seem to grab them when I need them.
I have these on two of my bikes, and had them on a third I've since sold. Easy to adjust--although, the reach-adjusting set screws on my newest set were a bit stiff. Great feel/reach aspect even before adjusting. I replaced a set of LX Shimano's with these after a sapling jumped out an grabbed hold of my bar. The first thing I noticed was that I didn't have to stretch my fingers as far to reach the levers as I did with the LXs out of the box. And the price? Like the neighbor's dog that keeps deucing on your lawn . . . You can't beat it!
At least you can adjust the reach but for a few dollars more, I would get the FR-7 levers that have some more toggle to fit your particular riding style. Still, solid construction and fully functional.
