Ive ridden these hard for 8 months in sandy, harpacked, and muddy conditions. They've excelled my needs without missing a beat. Only slippage was due to leaves, but once the tires found thier way to the ground they corrected nicely. Will purcahse again.

Excellent grip - Jun 09, 2014

The more Continental tires I try, the more I like the way they design tires. I have tried out the Mountain King, X-King, and the Trail King tires with ProTection in size 2.4 on my 26" and my 29" bikes. This tire worked really well for me in the light muck and rain we had this winter in Georgia. I really like how they dig in on up hills on my 29" bike. Like the Mountain King and X-king, these tires don't sound like a Panzer tank rolling down the road when you are on asphalt or hard pack. They are fast rolling as a pair and make a nice rear tire is you want something worth more grab on the front. Wear is pretty good compared to some other tires I have been messing around with since this time last year.

29er Tking - Apr 04, 2014

These tires work absolutely fantastic with the wet year we are having so far. For how aggressive the tread, rolling resistance is not as bad on hard pack as you would think. But, all this added traction resulted in an exploded shimano rear gearset. So don't plan on blaming your tires on failed hillclimbs anymore these tires are mountain goats.
