The Candy 1 has gone into stealth mode. A highly durable, low profile composite body drops the weight all the way down to 262 grams. Crankbrothers' trademark four sided entry remains unchanged.
The Candy 1 rolls on a steel axle that's been fitted with an internal bushing and a cartridge bearing for a long life. Should they ever need maintenance, crankbrothers has made the design very user friendly for easy servicing.
The included cleat provides 6 degrees of float and either a 15 or 20 degree release angle depending on how it's set up. The cleats will fit any 2 bolt, SPD style shoe.
I put these on my mountain bike hoping that the platform would give me a little more feedback from my pedals. I guess they do that, but I really prefer the eggbeaters that I put on my fixie. Switching to egg beaters on both bikes now. Nothing wrong with these, but the platform ends up just getting in my way.
I am on my second pair of these candy 1 pedals, not because the pedals wore out, but the cleats did after a couple of years and it was a better deal to buy a new set of pedals with the cleats than to just by the cleats. They are great pedals! I have bashed them many times and no damage. Easier release capability than Shimano Spd pedals. No need to buy the alloy Candy's these are durable.
I have a bad knee and need a pedal with lots of float, these fit the bill perfectly. easy to clip in easy to clip out . an all around solid product.
The Candy 1 pedal is a superb product. The simple Crank Bro design offers 4 sided entry and great debris clearing capability. As a roadie and mtn biker, I use Candy pedals on all my bikes. I've found the Candy pedal offers just the right amount of platform and support for longer rides. As always, Crank Bros are reliable and provide great customer support.
after 3 years, i crunched the bearings on my candy 2's, a week before a race, and days before a paycheck. so i ordered candy 1 because i could afford them and get them on time. and aside from being plastic instead of metal, i haven't seen much difference. good attachment and release. easy to care for. if you read the directions, you can have a 15 degree or 20 degree release depending on how you install the cleats. i use the 20 degree, and it holds nicely.
Great petal for learning riders but if you want a good petal this is not it. Even if your just riding this petal clips out alot!!!!!!
