Without a star fangled nut you wouldn't be able to mount your top cap or preload your headset bearings. This inexpensive little marvel isn't very glamorous but is essential when it comes to setting up the front of your bike.
This did not seem like the most precision crafted star nut out there, but absolutely did the job it was designed for. I own a threadless star nut setter, so the installation was easy and straight forward, although that had more to do with the tool than the star nut. My fork was reasonably priced, and I'd gladly use this star nut again. But if I was spending a ridiculous amount of money on a dream bike, there are likely better star nuts out there.
There isn't a huge diversity of starnuts in my opinion. There are flimsy ones, normal ones, and heavy duty ones. This falls in the "normal" category. I've stripped the threads out of one of these Dia Compe starnuts before so I recommend using a setting tool. Solid once you get it in there.
