I've been wearing these shoes for 3 years now and while the soles are starting to show a little wear, the uppers are still in amazing condition. The soles being torn up have more to do with my pedals and the death spikes that are the pins, but I don't remember ever having my feet slip while wearing these shoes. Whenever they get real dirty, I just hose them off and leave them outside in the sun to dry. As a bonus, rinsing the soles off seems to "refresh" the rubber and make it extra sticky again. I'll be buying another pair if my current ones ever fall apart.
After much destruction of lesser shoes, I bit the bullet and picked up a set of the Five Ten shoes. This pair constitutes the third and fourth 510's I have owned in my adult life. The first, a 1970, and the second a 1971. Like the Japanese Juggernaut those little coupes were, these shoes fit my needs perfectly. They fit like a glove and are sized exactly as they should be. I have been sized into a 10D by a proper shoe store, and the Five Ten sz.10 are just as perfect! Soles are sticky, and soft for those brutal pins in my plats. Most importantly, the soles are much stiffer than any pair of Air Walks, Etnies, or any other skate shoe I have used in the past for riding. They are comfortable for daily wear, but you can feel the stiffness, which may or may not be your cup of tea. Only way to make these Five Tens better... if I could fit a BRE Spook onto the toes!
I have an older version (2-3 years) of these and love them. They hold up great and stick to the pedals like crazy. I use them when I go jumping as well as on xc rides. Never have had any issues. The rubber is softer so I don't wear them around town too often. The soles are not overly stiff, nor are they too soft and flexible. I would highly recommend them.
These are comfortable, sticky and well made. In my opinion, better than the Vxi (which I have also tried). The grip is better, the shoes breath better, and they are MUCH more comfortable overall. Some people think that the soles are not stiff enough, but I prefer to have some flex and feel my pedals. Great Shoe!
I have had these shoes for about two years. Great with a good platform pedal. The soles are a sticky as advertised - never had my feet slip off during a ride. They aren't the most comfortable shoes in the world (for me), but they do the job and do it well.
Gets great grip with platform pedals. Its comfy enough to wear everyday. Has padding which can protect your foot in a crash. Has lasted a lot longer than my sneakers.
My go-to shoes for trail riding. They're super comfy and fit true to size. They're stiff but not too stiff and grip well. You can even walk around in them comfortably, unlike the heavy, bulky Five Ten Impacts. Easy on the eyes, easy on the feet, easy on the wallet!
I ride XC and these shoes are perfect. I paired them up with a set of Wellgo MG1 platform pedals. They grip like crazy! Once your foot is on the pedal, they aren't moving. You have to lift your foot up a bit on the upstroke to readjust, but it is something you quickly get used to. They withstand and protect your feet from getting bashed on roots and rocks. THey are also just the right stiffness for great pedal efficiency but they allow your feet to flex and move just enough. Very happy customer.
I bought the Orange Crush color of these shoes and love them. They are great for everyday wear and always dependable when you need to jump on a bike. They grip to flats very well and they offer good protection. These shoes are also very stylish in my opinion. I have friends compliment on them all the time. I'm thinking about getting the Red/Black one too. The price is not so bad either. They fit true to size. I'm a size 10 and these fit great.
