PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

GEAX Gato 29er Folding Mountain Tire

The Gato was designed for maximum grip and control in wet and loose conditions. The larger volume version features the same aggressive tread pattern, but with size specific, tall, widely spaced, siped knobs that ensure excellent shedding characteristics and increased traction through a range of elements. Reinforcements at the base of the central ridge reduce rolling resistance while similar reinforcements on the side knobs ensures knob stiffness and penetration when cornering.

  • Ideal for All Mountain riding
  • Starting with the Aramid 3D compound Geax developed a softer and lighter rubber to shave some weight on the tread keeping grip and durability to excellent levels

These will not go on Stan's ZTR Crest rims. That's probably mostly the rim's fault, but still would have been good to know before buying these. Also mine weighed in at 780/782g quite a bit more than 690g and the volume of these (on different rims) was about the same as my Maxxis Aspen 2.1s - a bit less than I was hoping for.

Tire just arrived, looks nice but not even close to the claimed weight for the 29x2.3 folding version. Even the GEAX website claims 690g. Put this thing on the scale it's at 775g!!!

Confidence Inspiring - Jun 07, 2014

I love this tire. I took my Giant Kenda stockers out onto an Xterra rated trail and almost killed myself several times. I ordered a set of these in the 2.1" and rode the same trail with confidence. These tires bite into flat and banked turns and grip n' rip on steep inclines. Overall, they are confidence inspiring without all the complicated dual tread fanciness of other tires. Stright forward trail tough. I will be buying them again. Maybe in a 2.3 next time.

One heck of a tire - Apr 30, 2014

On a Niner RDO with AC wheels and 1x10. 29x2.10 is perfect for the northwest crap/winter/sludge. Others have complained of reliability and at 185lbs its been perfect. Fast and predictable for me. Running tubeless no problem. Sealed first time with Continental stuff and whoop whoop its all good. Raced and long long rides from sand to rocks. Have the Saguaro for fast days and these for the muck.

I picked up one of these to use as a front tire from Price Point in May of 2013. I really didn't know much about them but the tread pattern and light weight looked good to me. I was worried about thin side walls but I ride all the time in the San Gabriel and Santa Monica Mountains where sharp rocks abound and I've never had a problem. They really perform very well on single track or fire roads and when ever this one wears out, I'll be getting another.

Great tires for rough terrain - Apr 27, 2013

Hudson Valley, NY

I've been running these tires ALL year long! My riding is three times a week, rain, snow or shine. We have rough terrain that always has wet areas even in Summer. In loose conditions with lot of leaves are debris these handle perfect. In Winter with the slush and snow and mud these tires are great. The only others that I would put in this category is the Kenda Nevegal, which has a little better grip but isn't as durable and is heavier. In my case I can't run the wider Nevegals in my hardtail...just a little too wide. These tires also roll faster than the Nevegals. Great all around tire, even when going bald, which is why I'm here to buy another.
