GEAX Gato 29er TNT Folding Tire

The Gato was designed for maximum grip and control in wet and loose conditions. The larger volume version features the same aggressive tread pattern, but with size specific, tall, widely spaced, siped knobs that ensure excellent shedding characteristics and increased traction through a range of elements. Reinforcements at the base of the central ridge reduce rolling resistance while similar reinforcements on the side knobs ensures knob stiffness and penetration when cornering. The new Gato, despite its infancy, is a sure choice for adverse All Mountain applications.

  • Tubeless talon (fits both standard and tubeless rims)
  • Handles dry conditions, grips wet and loose conditions
  • More stable at low inflation pressures for better grip
  • Geax TNT tire allows for up to 100g saving compared to a standard tubeless

Ok tire - Nov 23, 2014

Have owned this tire for some time now. It mounted easily tubeless, and the quality of the tire is good (very round, molded well). However, I haven't put that many miles on it, and they wore out fast. Rolls very well and traction is good when new, but cornering is not very good on the terrain I ride (loose over hard pack). There are noticeable tracks to the sides of the center knobs that lack good knobs, so I suspect this is the reason for poor cornering. I wouldn't recommend this for southern AZ, desert trail riding. However, I've ridden them in northern AZ (Flagstaff and Sedona), and they work much better on that terrain.

Durable, Grippy, heavy, surprising roll - Jun 07, 2014

I was looking for a more aggressive front tire to replace the stock Aspens that came on my bike. Saw the Gato for a good sale price and had seen a lot of positive reviews so thought I'd take a chance. I bought the TNT version although I ride tubed. The TNT sidewalls are BURLY and STOUT for sure! Makes it tough to mount on my stock Alex rims, but the Gato has held up extremely well even when faced with rocky conditions. No slices or very noticeable nicks on the sidewalls yet (couple hundred miles). The stoutness has a definite weight penalty but I'll accept that for the durability. However, they roll surprisingly well given the weight and aggressive tread pattern. I ride a good Midwest varsity of trails (hardpack, loose over hard, and some rocky/rooty). Gato has good bite as a front tire, lays over well when cornering and has been pretty predictable overall for my riding. Manufacturing quality seems first rate. My son has a Panaracer Rampage as a front tire and I think the Gato compares pretty favorably to the Rampage in grip, roll and ruggedness. Very satisfied with it as a front tire!

Great tire, good traction. Aired up with floor pump on WTB i19 rims tubeless. Set up with Stans and holds air very well. I can count on the pressure to be perfect without checking for every ride. The grip on wet rocks, roots, and logs in great. Really digs in the dirt and pine straw and gives confidence to push the corners.

Great tire just a little heavy. This tire holds well in all conditions. I was able to install and pump up with a floor pump on my Easton havens. Tried running them without sealant for a while but was tired of losing pressure I between each ride so now they have Stan's and hold better. I didn't so 5 stars because I thought they were a bit heavy for the size of the knobs.
