Giro Privateer Mountain Shoe
The Privateer combines a supple microfiber upper with a stiffest-in-class DuPont Zytel nylon outsole that rivals the performance of premium composite outsoles.
Aggressive, dual-density lugs give excellent traction in dirt and mud, and the entire outsole offers greater fatigue resistance than traditional nylon outsoles. A supportive EVA footbed with Aegis anti-microbial treatment enhances comfort and fit, which is adjustable via the classic combination of a micro-ratcheting buckle and two straps.
I have used these shoes 1 - 5x a week for a little over a year for commuting and mountain biking. They have held up very well so far and are comfortable to wear all day. I found that the material stretched a little bit over time, so I would recommend going with a slightly smaller shoe if you can. The ratchet has a tendency to unclick over the course of a few hours, requiring a retighten. Would still buy again for the comfort and holding up well.
I ordered these a half size (euro) smaller than my last shoes and they fit length wise fine but are a bit narrow. Might need some breaking in to contour to my foot. Had to use the included shim to work with crank brothers pedals. The shim causes more contact with the ground when walking. I had anticipated the gum colored sole to be a soft rubber like material but it is a hard plastic which could make wet surfaces slippery. My old shoes were a softer black material which was great on wet surfaces. Overall I'm happy with purchase
