Giro XAR Helmet 2014
The Czar of All-Mountain
All-mountain riding demands gear that is versatile, lightweight without sacrificing durability, and comfortable enough to ride for four to five hours in varying conditions. So we developed the Xar™ specifically for aggressive trail riding, with features like 17 Wind Tunnel™ vents with internal airflow channels, the micro-adjustability of Roc Loc® 5 and our patented P.O.V.™ visor to deflect the sun, rain, brush and branches. If you’re riding bigger, faster and farther than ever, the Xar™ is fit to roll with you.
This helmet is great. I received a good deal on Price Point and bought the camo style. Fits well and feels light. Straps and buckle are quality. Dial on the back works well too.
The XARs are light and breathable and fit really well. No complaints at all, and the sizing seems to accurate. Fortunately, I can't say much about how well they protect your head.
Great helmet. Would buy it again with no reservations.
Comfortable, functional, lightweight. Very happy with this helmet.
I absolutely love the fit of my XAR. I have owned Giro and Bell helmets previously, and this is the best fitting MTB helmet I have had yet. When I bought mine, I paid well over $100, so this looks like a pretty good deal. I love the in-mold construction. The shell wraps around the foam completely, so you won't be dinging up the foam part of the helmet. Fit and finish is very nice. The straps also lay flat against my face, which is nice compared to other helmets I have had in the past. My only disappointment is that it doesn't have more coverage in the back. Giro touts this helmet as being "all mountain," but it has a more XC vibe than say the Bell Super or POC Trabec. The upside is that this helmet is light and has fantastic ventilation.
I have had the XAR now for a year. Excellent helmet, good breathabiliy. Love the ROC Loc tensioning system. If I had to come up with a negative it would be for the visor. I would have liked for it to be removable. Very, minor negative.
