Hayes Stroker Ace Disc Brake

The Stroker Ace features Hayes' first four-piston, forged mono-bloc caliper and their biggest pads ever, giving the Ace tremendous heat management capabilities. They've also designed a longer lever for increased leverage at the bar. Mated to the proven Stroker master cylinder, this makes the Ace Hayes' most powerful brake ever, while advancing the already unmatched Stroker modulation.

Great stopping power once broken in. I replaced the rear. I noticed the pistons and seals need attention after a couple of season of hard use. Other wise, excellent for the money.

Best DH brake for the price - Apr 30, 2014

I switched from Avid Codes to these and I liked these a lot better. I am 230 lbs expert rider rides whistler and these stopped my big rear perfectly. I found the braking to be stronger overall and experienced less brake fade then the codes. I ran both codes and these on the same rotors. I used them for 2 seasons and didn't bleed them once and they ran perfect until the last day. I found that I could do a lot more 1 finger braking and that reduced arm pump a fair bit. I switched bikes and I am back with Codes but I have already started planning a switch back to the stroker aces.

Great brakes with good adjustability - Apr 30, 2014

Overall these are great brakes with plenty of stopping power. Pros: I like the simple reach adjustment making it easy to get both of your levers to activate at the same pull distance. They are easily serviceable with the appropriate bleed kit. Plenty of stopping power and relatively light. Cons: The main thing I dislike and why they get four stars is that I've noticed slack rebound on one of the levers requiring some occasional pumping action to make it rebound correctly. Could be a dead internal spring or some corrosion but have not pulled apart to determine.

Nice Ace! - Apr 23, 2014

If you can get these at under 100 a pair, you are in good shape! That would be a killer buy for a great pair of brakes. They might be a little heavier than most, but the caliper design reminds me of my Hope M4s. They are low maintenance and dependable. Highly recommended. I have had Maguras (3 different models), Hopes (M4 Motos), Avid Juicy 5s (boo) and 7s (boo boo) and these hit a great sweet spot between performance and value.

Excellent power and modulation - Apr 23, 2014

COSTA MESA, CA

These brakes are very powerful, very controllable, easy to bleed very reliable, and durable. I've owned several sets of Hayes brakes and they just don't die. You can leave them w/o bleed for years and they just work right away. The only gripe I have that prevents this from getting 5 stars - and it's a big one - is that the lever sucks. It's pretty parallel to bar but when you pull hard, it angles down causing your fingers to slide into the hook which is uncomfortable. This is a shame because the Mags levers were completely parallel to bar under heavy braking.

A little noise if you use the wrong pads but other than that, a solid performer.
