Kenda Small Block Eight 29er 29x2.1 Tire

Kenda Tomac Small Block Eight 29er DTC Folding Tire is an excellent hard pack XC race tire. 8 Nevegal shaped but smaller knobs across the tire provide better 'bite'. DTC - Dual Tread Compound offers cornering grip with faster center line acceleration. This is one of the fastest rolling tires in the Kenda Premium line.

  • Super sticky compound for hardcore cornering

Bad road tire, and and even worse dirt tire. - Apr 23, 2014

I built an 29er and read somewhere the big wheels worked better with small knobs. Well the SMALL block 8 has that. I liked the weight of the tires and how they looked on the bike but I slipped a lot on steep limbs. They were darn right scary in leaves and or mud. These tires did scary things that no other tire has ever done to be. For example on a down hill single track I crossed a fire road that was covered in leaves. I put on the breaks on the fire road so I had more time to see what the trail looked like on the other side of the road. The front tire skidded across the leaves like they were ice! They made steep climbs impossible. I had to keep so much of my weight back to keep traction that the front end was lifting all over the place! The rubber seems quite soft and the small knobs are also soft. they have no rigidity. This makes the tire kinda squirmy on pavement and reduced the life of the tire. If you want a good mtn tire for the road try the Maxxis Holyroller. The knobs don't squish and they last longer. Not sure if they sell it in a 29"... I replaced the Small Blocks with a Maxxis Igniter and an Ardent. MUCH BETTER!

If this tire could handle leaves in the fall i would run it for three seasons. It is a very light and great handling tire. In the fall the nobs don't apply enough pressure when running over leaves and they tend to skate and slide.

I just picked these up and am impressed with the low rolling resistance and grip. I spend a fair amount of time on pavement so was looking for a closer block pattern but still have the ability for hard pack trail riding.

Ordering tires online is tough, and these were narrower than I expected for 2.1s. They definitely roll fast on the hardpack for some of the rock gardens around here they are over matched. Good tire in the right conditions.

Just bought my second set, first went about 2500 miles. Very good on asphalt, fairly quiet and fast. Good on hardpack and uneven ground. Profile makes it corner well, no "squirm" when you really lean into it.

Running tubes so I can pump up to max inflation for gravel/rail trail use with wife and kids. Fast rolling on all hard surface types. Packs easily in sticky mud but clears fast when speeds increase. Fast, fun tire for mixed on off road use.

love this tread! fast rolling with good thorn protection. I have never had any sidewall tears in southern AZ. the folding beads lace nicely up to a tubeless specific rim. not incredibly light. a perfect trainer and good for your mixed trail races with sharp rocks. a must have for AZ trails!

Fast tires but sidewalls cut easily - May 09, 2013

Fast gripping tire even in wet conditions, love the tread, but I cut sidewalls on 2 different tires on rocks. Very hard to seal(non UST tire) had to run them with tubes. I have been able to seal most tires with Stans but not these. For where I ride I won't buy these again.
