Looks and sounds like cheap plastic - May 08, 2015

I bought this MRP S4 due to the other users good durability reviews and also because I have the MRP Party Crasher bashguard on my other MTB. My review, is mainly about my opinion regarding the material and color used on the S4 bashguard. I am disappointed that this S4's polycarbonate material IMO looks and feels like cheap plastic in comparison to my MRP Party Crasher. When I tap it with my finger nail or a screw driver it feels and sounds like a cheap brittle plastic. The high gloss black IMO also adds to its cheap appearance. Otherwise, it fits nicely into the spider arms of my M770 XT crankset. However, the provided silver spacers to go between the spider arms and the bashguard are not thick enough. So, when the chain is in the smallest gear in the back and middle ring in the front the chain rubs slightly on the inside of the bashguard and generates metal to metal sound like, which is due to the type of polycarbonate material used. My MRP Party Crasher does not sound like this and is more quiet due to the different type of polycarbonate material used. 4 stars for fit and design, 2 stars for brittle plastic feel and appearance.

Replaced large beaten up chainring with this bash guard for a 2 x 10 set up. All hardware/ instructions included. Has held up to a lot of abuse over the past 6 months or so. Has some slight deformity in shape after several very large/ hard rock impacts, but still functions perfectly. No cracking or bending. Best bash guard I've used for the price.

This is a great guard and not too expensive. Works much better and lasts much longer than those stupid frame mounted guards. The MRP S4 chainguides with the rollers (different product) are also bombproof and awesome.

I replaced my mangled big chain ring with the 32 tooth sized bash ring. It was simple to install and included all hardware, instructions, and torque specs. It is lighter weight than the chain ring it replaced and has already survived numerous hits without issue.
