NiteRider Mako 200 Front LightWe understand lights are an integral part of your daily commute. Using a light can mean the difference between being seen or not by automobile drivers. Many of the "entry level" commuter lights are nothing more than "be seen" lights. Your overall safety and visibility should not be limited by your budget, that's why NiteRider created the Mako Series. Our favorite feature is the side "gills" emit a red light, which not only looks cool, but makes the Makos more visible. The Mako line is easy on the wallet and operates on 2 AA batteries (included).
Had to get a light for a night canyon ride and purchased this one. Wow was it a great buy and on sale too! Gave me plenty of light to navigate the winding road and help me spot the Deer on the rode in plenty of time to miss it. After about 2 1/2 hours of use the light would start to dim some, I would just change out the batteries and keep going, the strobe feature is great when riding on hazy days when you're out and want to be seen by cars.
I just started using this light the past month for my lowlight-nolight rides and it has truly delivered!! Easily allows me to view what's ahead a good 25-plus yards as well as other on-road/off-road patrons being able to see me even more so. Good investment.
I've been using this light for about 3 years now and have yet to change the batteries I put in originally. The light is bright enough and the strobe mode works well as I commute to and from work (sometimes after dark, or before daybreak). The only thing though is that the ratchet mechanism to hold the clip on takes a strong grip to clip it in place to keep it secure enough to stay in place. Also the light will slide on and off locking in place in the pack, but after repeated off and on and off again, this gets a little loose and will wobble a bit.
I purchased this light because I began riding with a club in the evenings. For a battery powered light it works great. It has excellent battery life and is good for early evening riding. It is not too bright once it is completely dark but the strobe makes you very visable.
