Ritchey Comp Z Max Evolution 29x2.1 Wire Bead Tire
The Ritchey Z-Max Evolution is the latest version of Ritchey's classic Z-Max tire, a rider favorite for well over a decade. The Evolution uses nearly the same tried and true tread pattern with shorter, wider spaced lugs for lighter weight and reduced rolling resistance.
Update on my previous review: Ran them on 25 kms of hardpack singletrack trails yesterday, with 27 psi in the front, and 33 psi in the rear-they performed much better than they did in the wet, or than they did in loose gravel for that matter. They still don't like roots, wet or dry.
These tires were on carbon 29er as delivered. Coming off a 29er equipped with kenda Smallblock 8's, I was hoping these would be much more rugged and grippy in loose or wet conditions. They don't even climb as well in loose conditions. Also on wet hardpack, roots and rocks, they are almost terrifying. The tire simply slides along anything it encounters, way worse than the Smallblock 8's. Haven't tried them on any dry hardpack yet, but I am planning on getting these off the bike ASAP
Good grip, great trail tire for the price.
