Sette CX-1 Ultegra Carbon Cyclocross Bike
This might be a long shot...but if you happened to do any of the races in the 2009 SoCalCross Prestige Series, there's a good chance you've already crossed paths with the CX-1. Of course you might not have noticed it. It was completely stealthed-out to be as invisible as possible. Then again, maybe you did notice it because there's not a whole lot of full carbon 'cross bikes out there.
The CX-1 breezed through an entire race season and then some with flying colors and has now made the final step from an out-in-the-open-top-secret to the most potent weapon you can buy without requiring a 7-day waiting period. The frame and fork are hand crafted from 3K high modulus carbon fiber with a layup specific to off-pavement use. And, to put it simply, the geometry is dialed. One very intriguing aspect of the frame design is the internal cable routing that wards off grime and muck like a velvet rope scares away the riff-raff.
The component spec is just as impressive. You'll find Shimano Ultegra taking care of the shifters, derailleurs, chain and cassette. The crank is FSA's cyclocross specific Energy Mega Exo with 36/46 chain rings. The wheels are Mavic Aksium fitted with UCI legal 700 x 32 Vittoria Cross XG Pro tires. This wheelset is perfectly race worthy or makes a great training set if you've got a set of deep dish tubies hanging in the garage. Avid Shorty 4 cantis take care of deceleration and a 3T cockpit rounds out the mix.
Because weight is rather important for a cross bike particularly when you're on the bell lap approaching the final run up, you'll be happy to know that a 56cm CX-1 weighs in at 18.69lbs without pedals.

I've got around 600 miles on my CX-1 and I've done everything with it...technical singletrack, doubletrack, gravel roads, paved roads, tours, commuting, and even raced a crit or two. This bike does it all...it's light, comfortable, and handles great on or off road. The carbon frame and fork are very nice and the component spec is out of this world for the price. This is my second Sette bike (the first being an original Razzo that now has 3k miles on it) and I will probably buy another at some point. I am mainly a mountain biker so I wanted a road bike that was...a mountain bike. This one does everything I want it to do and I like the fit and geometry of the bike better than a regular road bike...it feels longer to me and the CX geometry makes it point and shoot, but not nervous. The only gripes/ suggestions I would have is that I'm not a fan of matte finishes...would rather have a gloss clear coat on the frame as it's easier to clean and I just think it looks better. Because I live in Colorado and have some serious climbs to tackle, I changed out the rear cassette to a 12-27 which was a big improvement for me. I also needed a straight seatpost to get the bike to fit me better. The Vittoria tires run great with a tubeless setup and around 35psi. I bought another set of wheels and mounted regular high pressure road tires on them and the original cassette and in 5 minutes I can switch from rough and ready CX/mountain bike to road racing/touring bike. Buy one!
