Ultegra, which stands for "Ultimate Integrity", has for years been known as state of the art technology that's been proven at the professional level, and the mechanical brake calipers seen above are yet another fine example of that. Taking its cue from the latest 9000 Series Dura Ace brake calipers, the 6800 brake also features Shimano's new "Super SLR Dual Pivot" design, which moves one of the pivots from the mounting bolt to a point symmetrical with the other. This new design, which results in equal pressure being applied to both arms, results in what Shimano claims is an increase of roughly 10 to 16 percent in braking power. When coupled with all new, polymer coated cables, the 6800 series brake caliper is not only more powerful but also provides superior modulation, representing a substantial improvement over past models.
I installed these in place of SRAM Rivals that I had. I thought I'd be upgrading the pads to Kool Stops but I am pleased with them out of the box. Definite improvement. They look slick, too.
