As Mountain bikes continue to become more diverse, obviously components must evolve. New Shimano Deore XT addresses the various needs of today's riders. Together with double rear derailleur "Shimano Shadow RD" was specially designed for all mountain riding. Together with double-servo-panta mechanism derailleurs now, you have the right choices for several off road styles. New XT disc brake with a new level of performance and controllability, features high power braking. "Engineered for the way you ride". With the same concept as XTR, new Deore XT is born.
The Shimano XT M772 has a low profile design intended for more aggressive riding. Quiet : will not contact chain stay. Super low profile design carries many benefits. Because of its low profile and single tension construction, no hit to chain stay in rough riding conditions. The result is smooth and silent performance.
Shimano XT M772 Shadow Rear Derailleur features a low profile for improved durability (low profile design saves RD from damage in a narrow passage), direct routing to reduce the risk of snagging, and a stronger return spring for more crisp shifting feeling.

I've been through two of these rear derailleurs.... First one was taken out by a stick on an over grown trail... Broke in an unserviceable area.... Bought a replacement here.... Rode three times, went out for a trail ride and got about 30ft and broke the second one.... Broke in an entirely different spot, and still to this day I have no idea what caused it.... Very disappointed that I will have to spend another $100 to replace the same part again... Wish I could upgrade without replacing my entire drivetrain....
I upgraded my first (2003) MTB as I wore out the lower-end spec parts, to XT, in the mid-2000s. Through that bike, and a new one, I've always used XT rear-ds with no problems (if you bend them too often, they'll stop being happy, but that's not a problem with the product). I got a great deal on the Shadow version last year, put it on, have continued to be nothing but happy with it, and although I haven't noticed a difference in chain slap (I've had Lizard Skin stay protectors all along so may not notice either way), it certainly just works great, as usual.
Very durable holds well in mountainous terrains. Solid and precise shifting.
Shimano fans, XT is the best for durability and price. I've tried all the lower level of derailleurs and found XT to have the longest service life.
It is hard to beat the XT level of Shimano components. The shadow has worked well for me and I have had no problems with it. A great buy if you need a rear derailleur.
My 5-ish year old XT derailleur finally broke. I bought this one because I've had good luck with XT rear deraileurs...good performance & durability for the price. But this one doesn't shift nearly as well as my old one did. I've had it long enough for everything to break in, and I adjust it constantly, but I still have to click twice to get one gear.
This derailleur came as original equipment on my Giant mountain bike. It was working great for a couple years when it got ripped off the bike by a hidden tree stump. Bought another one and it's working great too. Keeping an eye out for the tree stumps!
This rear der really impress me. Since I am using XT shadows my problems whit gear changing finishes, even in hard conditions. Having a reliable drive train saves you mind to focus in the trail and makes your performance increase and is starts with a strong and precise rear derailleur. If you can have it for a just price, better. So your choice must be XT.
I bought this derailleur to complete my full-XT drive train. I had an SLX and this made a noticeable difference. The finish is beautiful and there is no match for the XT silence that comes from eliminating chain slap on rough rides. It shifts crisply and is easily fine-tuned. I installed and dialed it in myself in less than 20 minutes. Highly recommended.
I've had these derailleurs on several different bikes and always loved them. I honestly don't think I've ever had an issue with the XT other than the occasional tune-up. Upgraded my teenagers bikes to the XT so I wouldn't hear any more whinning about shifting issues while out on the trail. Worth the money!
Silent and precise shifting, light weight, a solid performer and one of the best rear derailleurs on the market
High end performance at a great value. Precision shifting, lightweight, sleek look and easy to install.
