HOW TO MEASURE YOUR STEM

How to choose the right threadless stem:
There are four different specs you must consider when choosing a threadless stem:

1) Diameter of Steer Clamp
2) Diameter of Handle Clamp
3) Stem Length
4) Stem Rise

Diameter of Steer Clamp:

To determine this spec, you will need to measure the inside
diameter of your fork's steertube or the inside diameter,
In general there are four sizes available:

1) 1 Inch
2) 1 1/8 Inc (usually standard on most bikes)
3)1 1/4 Inch
4)1.5 Inch ( found on new Freeride and Downhill Bikes)

Diameter of Handlebar Clamp:

To determine this spec, you will need to measure the inside
diameter of the stem or the outside diameter of your handlebar.
In general, there are two sizes for
mountain and two sizes for road bikes:

Mountain Bikes: 25.4 or 31.8mm

Road Bikes: 26.0 or 31.8mm

Stem Length:

To determine this spec, you will need to measure your current stem.
To do this you will need to measure from the center of your handlebar
to the center of your steer tube. If you are not confortable with your
current stem, you can choose to go with a shorter or longer stem.

In general, stems range in size from 90mm to 130mm. With stem
length there is no standard. They are fit to each rider and each riding style.

Stem Rise:

To determine this spec, you will need to measure
the angle of rise relative to the headtube angle.

In general, stems have a rise between 0 and 15 degrees. Please
note: Stems that are above perpendicular have positive rise. Stems that have angles below perpendicular have a negative rise.
