  Product Description
From slopestyle to singletrack, the 36™ Van can do it all. The RC2 patent-pending position sensitive damper with FIT cartridge, all new 36 chassis with Fox’s tool-free 20QR system and 20 mm stepped thru-axle for superior torsional grip, separately adjustable high and low speed compression damping circuits, adjustable rebound, and a healthy 160 mm of coil sprung travel make the Van worthy of just about anything you can throw at it. From huge air and hard landings to trail trash and stutter bumps – the 36 Van sucks it all up and makes the world smooth again.

With separate externally adjustable high and low speed compression damping circuits as well as externally adjustable, click-by-click rebound damping and a position-sensitive progressive bottoming system, the RC2 cartridge jams an incredible amount of performance into a lightweight package. Featured on Fox’s 36 and 40 forks, RC2’s multiple circuits and dedicated shim-controlled rebound damping offer unparalleled tenability for gravity racing and big-hit riding.

Though each FOX Isolated Technology cartridge is specific to the needs of its environment, each share one common theme; high performance damping works best when oil and air are separated. Foam is good for Cafe Lattes, but not good for damping. Fox’s new FIT cartridge with Isolated Technology damping isolates oil from air, keeping the oil free from emulsion that can lead to fading and damping lag.

All 2008 36’s have NEW Crown, 20QR, Axle, Post Mounts, and Cable Guide. The new design features a lighter and stiffer crown, a new lighter lower leg design with an integrated 20mm QR for tool-free axle removal and superior torsional grip, and an incredible weight savings of .2 lbs over the current design! Same strength, same stiffness, tool-free axle, AND lighter weight – The all-new 36 is ready for just about anything.

The New 20QR System – Tool-Free Quick Release System is the stiffest 20 mm quick release axle available. The tool-free axle is hollow forged, providing a 10% weight reduction with a 35% increase in shear strength and a 60% increase in torsional strength.

Less is more. The NEW integrated disc brake cable guide is easier to install due to it’s simplified redesign.

Ultra-light and ultra rigid post mounts pass disc fatigue tests over 25 times higher than CEN/ISO standard.

Low-speed compression damping is adjusted with the blue bezel ring below the blue lockout lever, and has 8 clicks of adjustment. Compression damping controls the speed at which the fork compresses. Adjust low-speed compression with lockout disabled (lockout lever fully counterclockwise). As a starting point, turn the low-speed compression dial all the way counterclockwise (full out) until it stops, then turn clockwise (in) 5 clicks.

High-speed compression damping controls the force it takes to move the fork through its travel and how the whell reacts to a bump. This adjuster rotates to stops at each end and has 15 clicks of adjustment. It is preset from the factory at 1 click in from the full out (counterclockwise) position. The knob is protected by the black protective cap. Never ride your Fox 36 without the black protective cap.

Coil spring preload is for setting sag. To get the best performance from your fork, it is necessary to set and adjust sag. (Amount a shock or fork compresses with the rider sitting on the bike in a normal riding position. Best measured with an assistant holding your bike up and with the rider in full riding gear. On a fork, It is helpful to place a zip tie around one of the upper tubes.) Generally, sag should be set to 15-25% of total fork travel.

The rebound knob is located on the top of the right fork leg. Rebound controls the speed at which the fork extends after compressing. Turning the knob clockwise slows down rebound; turning the knob counterclockwise speeds up rebound. The 36 rebound has 15 clicks of adjustment. As a starting point, turn the rebound adjuster knob all the way clockwise (full in) until it stops, then turn counterclockwise (out) 8 clicks.
