Torment your adversaries with the Sette Vexx Complete Bike

In Bike Magazine's recent issue, called "The Bible of Bike Tests", their editors put the Sette Vexx to the test and stated that "the level of components on this bike is truly remarkable considering the price." They declared that the Vexx "gives riders all the tools needed to shred lift-accessed trails, and testers agreed that the Vexx is tough to beat for the money." And, as they concluded, "Bottom Line: An 8.5-inch-travel DH bike with good parts that lets riders hit the hill without breaking the bank."

The Vexx DH bike is based upon classic DH geometry that will give it the versatility to perform in a variety of terrain. Although most of us fantasize about having a mountain with lift access in our backyard and wide open trails, the reality is most of us are shuttling our local single track or hitting our favorite session area where tighter turns and occasionally slower speeds are a part of the deal. The Vexx 6061 aluminum 8.5" travel frame is incredibly well thought out and keeps this reality in mind. The top tube is of monocoque construction to achieve focused, precise steering, all while maintaining plenty of clearance for maneuvering around on the frame. The Vexx also features CNC machined struts and linkage for superior tracking through the toughest terrain.

It's important to get the angles right, and the Vexx nails it with a 66 degree 1.5" machined head tube. You may need to re-visualize what lines are possible with the Vexx, yet the steering will never feel sluggish. You'll be in control of what lines to take, not the bike. Front to back, every detail is attended to: The bottom bracket gives you the wide stance of an 83mm shell and integrated ISCG (old) tabs for superior chain guide performance. Not only are all of the pivot bearings sealed but they are oversized at 10mm instead of the usual industry standard of 8mm. The rear triangle incorporates a 12 x 150mm bolt on thru-axle (supplied) that virtually eliminates flex in the frame. This decreases the amount of dish necessary for the rear wheel, making it stronger and more reliable. Sette has also provided a CNC machined replaceable rear derailleur hanger to take the substantial abuse of a DH rig. Suspension is controlled by the RockShox Vivid 4.1, a masterful shock that includes adjustments for both ending and beginning stroke rebound. The preload on the spring is also adjustable. All of the cable and hydraulic brake guides are logically well placed.

The parts spec on this bike is pretty choice. Sette wanted to make sure that every component inspired confidence and trust and came from manufacturers whose reputations were top notch. Up front is the RockShox Boxxer Race that incorporates the new Mission Control DH damper that features dual Flow Adjust compression and rebound as well as a new Maxle Lite DH. A SRAM X9/X7 drivetrain speeds things up and Avid Code 5s will slow you down when things get too exciting. The Gravity MegaExo DH cranks and bottom bracket are ready to handle the abuse of repeated sprints and pedal digs of crowded rock gardens. The cranks even come already equipped with an E13 bash guard. And what better company to start your wheel build with than Mavic? The Mavic EX729 Rims are mated to a Formula DHL-150 rear hub and Sette's own 20mm thru-axle front hub with sealed cartridge bearings. The Vexx is ready for most anything you throw at it and will help you push the boundaries of whatever gravity allows.

Customer Reviews

"...it pedals better than I thought it would. The steering angles are very close to my old trek session 77. The bike sits fairly low and the center of gravity is low, so railing turns is nice and smooth. I had a vivid shock from day one and replaced it with a Marzocchi Roco WC. Makes for a very lively rear end. Once I get some real saddle time in I'll post a full review. One thing I can say is that this is a great bike for the beginner to expert level downhiller. Plus you can't beat the price. More to come soon."

Does this bike come pre-assembled?
The Sette Vexx comes 95% assembled. The final steps to complete your bike are mounting the handlebars, pedals and front wheel and installing the seat and seatpost. The shifting and brakes are pre-assembled but will most likely require some fine tuning. Although you home mechanics may love the idea of putting your own bike together, to be covered under the manufacturer's warranty Sette USA requires that your bicycle be assembled by a qualified, professional bicycle mechanic.

What tools will be needed to assemble my bike?
Here are the tools required for the assembly of your bicycle:

  • 2, 3, 4, and 5mm Hex (allen) Wrenches
  • Pedal Wrench (15mm)

For adjustments and routine maintenance, it will also be handy to have the following:

  • 8mm Hex (Allen) Wrench
  • Philips Head Screwdriver

Besides the included general manual there are also comprehensive instructional guides for every component found on your bicycle. These are filled with valuable information and we strongly suggest that you hang on to these for future reference.

Will this bike need a follow up tune-up? And when?
Yes, this bike will need a follow up tune up. After the initial assembly and fine tuning of your bike, it will be necessary to perform routine follow up maintenance. Depending on how often you ride and the intensity of the terrain, we highly recommend that after a break-in period of approximately one month that you perform a thorough tune up. WE CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH! This is the most important tune up that your bike will ever receive.

Why? All bikes break-in, no matter how much they cost! Cables stretch, bolts loosen, spokes tension changes, brakes and derailleurs go out of adjustment; all normal behavior, especially when a bike is new. After performing that first tune up, everything tends to settle in and your bike will usually require less frequent adjustments. A timely tune up on a new bike will help you get many years of reliable performance.

How do I get service for my bike?
If you have any questions at all, do not hesitate to contact Price Point. As an authorized Sette USA reseller, Price Point is prepared to answer any questions you may have. If you require routine maintenance and repair, Sette USA and Price Point recommend that you bring your bike to your local qualified, professional bicycle mechanic.

What size bike do I need?
Sette has provided a size chart to help determine what size bicycle you should purchase (see the tab above, under "BikeFit").

Indications that you may require an alternative size to what is recommended in the BikeFit Chart:

  • Limited range of motion - often, when someone has suffered an injury, or has certain physical limitations or development issues due to their personal medical history, it may result in limited ranges of motion.
  • If you fall at either end of the BikeFit Chart's size spectrum (i.e. tall/short).

In either case, you may need to modify certain components on your bicycle. Contact Price Point and our staff of knowledgeable experts will be glad to assist you achieve the perfect fit.
