By drilling only one rim wall, Mavic made the rim four times more resistant to fatigue stress. All your energy is transmitted through a 40% increase in rigidity. One wall of the rim is drilled with a tapered point with carbide that heats the alloy, and pushes it inside the rim. It creates a chimney that can then be threaded. The integrated M7 nipple can be screwed directly into this thread.

SUP (Soudé Usiné Process)
A welded and milled rim joint which is extremely strong, eliminates shuddering when braking and offers superior wheel balance. After bending, the rim joint is arc welded. The welded seam is then milled for a smooth finish.

WTB LaserDisc 29er Rim
LaserDisc rims are the best-in-class mountain rims. The design, borrowed from classic architecture, features WTB’s I-beam with drilled-through eyelets that allow for higher spoke tensions. The well supported walls stiffen and stabilize the rim’s box structure and do so with less material and a cleaner design. This proprietary central I-beam construction provides a virtual third vertical wall making for an incredibly stiff, yet lightweight rim. All this translates to better acceleration and improved longevity. Pinned at the seam for strength and QC’d by WTB’s wheel masters, the LaserDisc rims are your best investment.
Unbendium Bulge: A band of material added at the ideal place on rim sidewalls to counter torsional as well as radial and lateral flex. This rib mid-line at hhe widest point encounters the highest loads on bump impacts and provides integrity for greatest strength benefit at minimal weight.
I-Beam: A centrally located member to counter spoke loads and provide torsional rigidity, this beam is a distinctive feature pioneered by WTB.
Safety Seal: Two raised bumps inboard of the horizontal shelves that locate the beads of a tire on it’s inside diameter. These slightly higher bumps along with the positive inner diameter location of the bead help to retain the tire from getting pulled away from the hook during heavy lateral loading.
