Shimano hubs exclusively use a cup and cone bearing system in all of its hubs. Cup-and-cone bearings offer greater strength than sealed cartridge bearings due to their ability to displace lateral and vertical loads more effectively for super smooth rotation in real world riding conditions.
Cup-and-cone bearings also allow for easier maintenance, adjustability and serviceability.
The new WTB SpeedDisc Trail and 29er rims deliver the same great I-beam features as the LaserDisc series rims, but at a more affordable price. They are further enhanced with new features unseen on bicycle rims and deliver a new standard for other rim makers to follow. The Azonic Outlaw Wheelset has been designed to be light enough for cross country racers but strong enough to take the biggest drops. It has also been designed to be very versatile due to the easily convertible hubs. The hubs can be switched from quick release to 20mm through axle for the front and the rear can convert from quick release to 12mm through axle without needing to purchase any extra parts. Sealed cartridge bearings and 36 spokes insure a smooth and straight ride. The 36hole hubs on the Azonic Outlaw Wheelset use a standard 6-bolt IS standard so you can bolt up your favorite rotor. The rear hub spacing is available in two options. 135mm for standard frames and 150mm for some downhill and freeride frames. Make sure you choose the proper size spacing for your frame.

FTS-X (Force Transfer X)
The ‘FTS Nose’ is an extension of the hub body that goes inside the freewheel. The contact zone between the pawl and the FTS Nose is reinforced by 2 stainless steel inserts, which allows for manufacturing an all aluminium, mono-piece hub body. The pawls are centered exactly in the middle of the freewheel body, for a direct power transmission. The FTS-X version features 2 new pawls made of harder steel, a new low friction v-seal and new axle end screw with a dry thread lock prep.

H2 (Hammer Hardening)
Hammer Hardening, or H2, is the local strengthening of the rim in the area where the spokes exert the greatest force. This improves life expectancy and the resistance to micro cracking. Reinforcement of the area around each nipple hole by hammering to compress the material of this sensitive zone. The rim can be eyeleted on top to even more improve resistance.

QRM
The sealed cartridge bearings on all Mavic hubs are exceptional: they are easy to maintain, produce low friction, and are interchangeable. These sealed cartridge bearings are removable and micro adjustable, allowing you to easily and quickly adjust your wheels according to performance goals: high precision adjustment for maximum fluidity, or set tighter for all weather rides.

Shimano XT MT75 29er Wheelset
Wheels are always a critical decision for a bike because they're rotating mass, and they handle large amounts of stress. The decision is only amplified when we move from 26 inch wheels to 29 inch. It's a longer way from the hub to the rim, so companies like Shimano have to work harder to maintain stiffness without adding too much weight. Shimano has been slow to enter the 29er market for two reasons: 1/ they wisely wanted to be sure the market was here to stay, and 2/ they wanted to do it right. With the WH-MT75 Shimano XT 29R Centerlock wheelset, they nailed it.
These wheels benefit from trickle down technology from the fantastic XTR wheelset. They roll on the same internals that come with XT hubs, so they are plenty smooth -- thanks to the angular contact bearings -- and durable, not unlike all members of the XT family. The main differences are that the flanges have been altered to work with straight-pull spokes and the axles are a beefy 14mm 7075 T6 aluminum. 24 double-butted (14-15-14) spokes in each wheel are set up two-cross and evenly spaced, which adds significant lateral strength without adding rim weight. The spokes no longer hook onto the side of the rim and get adjusted at the hub, which means a lighter, shallower rim can be employed.
The disc-specific WH-MT75 Shimano XT 29R Centerlock wheelset is designed to work with Centerlock rotors. The wheels are tubeless compatible, and tires can also be mounted with tubes. Over locknut distance is 100mm in the front, 135mm in the rear. Both the front and rear wheels have labyrinth and contact seals protecting the angular contact bearings. The rear wheel is compatible with nine-speed cassettes, with a 11t minimum cog. The hollow axles are aluminum and come with aluminum-shafted quick release skewers. The hub shell is aluminum and anodized, and it utilizes the Centerlock rotor standard. 6 bolt rotors CAN be used, but require the use of an adaptor. The rim is 29” in diameter (622 x 19c ETRTO) and the rim width is 23.5mm. Both front and rear wheels have 24 stainless spokes and are affixed to the rim with red anodized aluminum nipples.
