Hydrapak Gel-Bot Bike Bottle
Hydrapak's Gel-Bot delivers two performance essentials in one easy to use bottle. The inner chamber serves as a energy gel compartment while the rest of it holds water.
The unique bite valve allows consumption of the consumption of gel, water, or both.
I primarily use this bottle for races. It allows me to quickly eat a gu without having to open a packet, then try to get every last drop so it doesn't make my jersey pocket all sticky when I put it back in. Although it works, there are some flaws or improvements to be made. The diameter of the mouthpiece is too wide for me. Its similar to the diameter of a purst bottle or the new camel bak bottles. The distance between the top of the bottle cap and bottom of the nozzle is too small, which makes it difficult to open. The gu is too hard to push out simply by squeezing the bottle, especially if the bottle is mostly empty. The gu canister needs to be a smaller diameter, therefore increasing the pressure on the piston with the same amount of force applied. Pressure = Force/Area. My solution is to squeeze and suck at the same time. The distance between the rubber gu valve and the top of the mouthpiece is about and inch. This space houses gu that can't be eaten. On a MTB, this gu ends up getting all over the bike. Over all, this bottle does what its supposed to do. It fits well in the bottle cage (~1mm less in diameter than a specialized bottle) and I'm glad i bought it.
